The View From My Window
By Randy Cook

As I sit in my study reviewing an outline for Bible Class, or a future sermon, occasionally my eyes take a break and look out the window. This view has no houses, no cars, and most of the time, no people. But, what I do see reminds me that God is still in control, and His love is enduring.
I see trees – many varieties, many sizes, but all teeming with life. Leaves are sprouting, pollen fills the air, blossoms of white and pink are visible. New life that comes with springtime reminds me that God promised it long ago (Gen. 8:22).I see wildlife – a daily dose of a variety of birds, and a half dozen or so squirrels that play chase among the trees. They are such a pleasure to watch, knowing that God created them, just like He made me. Occasionally I see a fox, a coyote, a skunk, a deer, a snake, a dog, a cat, a raccoon, and lots of bugs.
I see a playground nestled among the trees. It reminds of the joy I experience when I take Gabbi and Conner there to play. Their smiles and their imaginations fascinate me.
I see a picnic pavilion. It is the home of numerous times of splendid fellowship and many delicious meals. There have been fish fries, wiener roasts, birthday parties, wedding showers, periods of worship, Bible studies, youth gatherings, and a host of other enjoyable events. What a joyful place!
I see a clothesline, with clean clothes blowing gently in the breeze. It reminds me of my loving wife who works so hard in making life more pleasant for us, keeping things clean, and being economically conscious. What a blessing she is to me!
I see my workshop. My retreat. My place of “sawdust therapy.” My place to tinker.
I see the sky, which today is perfectly blue – not a cloud in sight. And, God made it too! Someday there will be a cloud, and Jesus will be on it, ushering in the resurrection of all mankind, the judgment, and eternity.
My study is just that – a place to study. But it is also a place of reflection and meditation. The view from my window changes from day to day as the seasons change. What I see teaches that God is, that He loves, and that He cares. What do you see out your window?
